THE TRUTH THAT MATTERS
An Original Audio Drama
By: SUEELLEN MELO
A writer.
A photographer.
And a night of violence.
When you fear the end is near, you get real about yourself and your world.
As a writer and photographer go in search of one truth, they find others about the world, themselves, and each other.
The Truth That Matters is the latest original audio drama from writer SUEELLEN MELO, taking a search for truth and placing it against a night when suddenly much more than the story itself is at stake.
What begins with two people looking for answers becomes something far more personal.
What do we discover about ourselves when circumstances strip away the things we use to protect ourselves?
What truths become impossible to avoid when we begin to believe there may not be a tomorrow in which to deal with them?
And what happens when the truth we thought we were searching for is not necessarily the truth we find?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
SUEELLEN MELO is a writer, performer, podcaster and frequent contributor across the Sunday Edition Family of Podcasts and Digital Media Content Services.
Her creative life has included writing for a student newspaper, published poetry, song lyrics, theater and performance. She also co-authored transitional songs for a production of California Suite.
During the COVID era, SUEELLEN became involved with Community Karaoke, which eventually led her to Behind the Music and then to Next Generation Entertainment Soaps, where she fulfilled a longtime dream of becoming a podcaster.
Today, she is one of the co-hosts of Next Generation Entertainment Soaps and a familiar voice throughout the Sunday Edition family.
But SUEELLEN is also a writer in her own right.
Her contributions have explored disability, advocacy, accessibility, entertainment, human relationships and the complicated spaces where all of those things sometimes collide.
The Truth That Matters gives us another opportunity to experience that storytelling in a completely different form.
EDITOR’S NOTE
We love SUEELLEN’s contributions to the Sunday Edition family.
Yes, she is one of our co-hosts on Next Generation Entertainment Soaps.
Yes, she is a frequent contributor throughout our programming.
But she is also a terrific writer in her own right, and The Truth That Matters is another reminder of exactly that.
The story is fascinating and nicely paced, with a whole lot of atmosphere.
It takes its time when it should, moves when it needs to and allows the tension to build around the characters rather than simply announcing itself.
And then there is the production.
Working in collaboration with Danielle and The Amirra McCoy Project Audio Drama Podcast, the production work gives SUEELLEN’s story room to become something more than words being read into a microphone.
It becomes a lush audio drama.
Those familiar with the Sunday Edition presentation of Under Candlelight already know what Danielle and The Amirra McCoy Project can do with audio storytelling.
Atmosphere matters.
Sound matters.
Silence matters.
Pacing matters.
And when all of those elements are allowed to work with the writing instead of fighting for attention, audio storytelling can build an entire world without showing us a single picture.
That is what makes this one such compelling listening.
So turn down the distractions.
Put on the headphones if you have them.
And spend some time with a writer, a photographer and a night when searching for one truth may uncover quite a few others.
